Enjoy one of New Zealand’s most iconic rail journeys as you travel through the spectacular landscapes of Otago and into the remote Taieri Gorge. This historic railway experience takes you across dramatic viaducts, through hand-carved tunnels, and alongside the winding Taieri River—offering access to areas that cannot be reached by road.
With engaging onboard commentary, you’ll learn about the region’s rich history, early railway engineering, and the significance of this remarkable route.

Approximately 5 hours return (Dunedin – Pukerangi – Dunedin)
Timetable
- 9:30 AM – Depart Dunedin Railway Station
- 11:35 AM – Arrive Pukerangi
- 12:10 PM – Depart Pukerangi
- 2:15 PM – Arrive Dunedin Railway Station
Passengers will have a short stop at Pukerangi to step off the train, stretch their legs, and take in the surrounding scenery.
